“EL BARRIÓ”

Photo Exhibition in Houston, TX | January 14th - February 11th, 2023

“El Segundo Barrio”or Second Ward is known for its artistic legacy in the East End community of Houston, Texas. Full of history and culture, the neighborhood has been rapidly developing bringing many new businesses. In an effort to showcase the rich culture existing before the rise of condos and trendy shops, Raquel brought together local photographers, Joe Robles, Mike Lazo, and Katelynn Elizondo to share images of their community through their eyes.

The exhibition opened during a family friendly community block party happening in the neighborhood. It was an eventful day of Art, Food, Music, Low-riders and an opportunity to support local artists and small businesses.

Each artist donated a percentage of print sales to local non profit organizations Texas Environmental Justice Advocacy Service (TEJAS) and Ballet Folklorico Herencia Mexicana De Houston.
